The Kitchen Paper

The Haps

A few vacation thoughts to assure you I haven’t been eaten by sharks or lost in a shipwreck.

  1. First things first, I went and bought this dress promptly after arriving in Honolulu last week. I spotted it online last week and nearly died: it is PERFECT.
  2. We have (had?) a number of things on our Hawaii bucket-list, which we did a wonderful job of checking off during the first half of our trip. Included in said list was some SCUBA diving, one of our favorite things to do EVER! Check out this photostream of our dives! Diving really feels like having a super power, and is (in my mind) ridiculously romantic.
  3. POKE. Number one favorite food in life. No joke. I know this is a HUGE statement, but it’s absolutely true. Luckily, Derek and Charles feel the same way and therefore we’ve been eating poke bowls every day for lunch. And sometimes for dinner… You cannot go wrong!
  4. Spending time on the beach like this is 100% fine with me. Between surfing, diving, stand up paddle boarding, and other water activities, the beach is our main love! Isn’t he cute!?
  5. Waking up to this every morning: not too shabby.
  6. We left the greenhouse at the hands of other people this week β€” hopefully these babies are even bigger when we get home!
  7. Although I’m enjoying leaving my phone behind quite a bit this trip, I’m also having serious Google Reader withdrawals. At home, the first thing I do (after a morning cuddle) is to check my Google Reader and get updated on news and blogs I follow. Right now, I can see that I have 600+ unread articles… YIKES! If you aren’t familiar with Google Reader, check out Mollie’s post about how wonderful it is!
  8. If you follow my Instagram (username marywarrington) or, to a lesser extent, my Twitter, you probably spotted some zoom zoom SCOOTER photos the other day! We rented these death wheels and rode around a bit of the island, stopping for scenic views and delicious food (aka more poke). Don’t worry, we wore helmets (even though it’s not required).
  9. Surfing and eating seem to be the mainstays of the trip β€” both things that have been near and dear to my heart for quite a long time. I learned to surf my sophomore year of high school on a school trip to San Diego, then spent the following three years driving to the Oregon coast to surf every weekend with friends. Our senior year, we planned the school trip which took us to Mexico for another week of surfing. Since then, I’ve only been on a board ONCE! There is no feeling quite like catching a beautiful green wave!
  10. I swear I have food posts coming soon! I put so much effort into making and photographing things before I left, so I have no excuses β€” I just haven’t written the posts! Enjoying vacation: guilty.

Back to vacationing β€” just thought I’d stop in for a quick “hello” and update!
