Strawberries and Cream Oatmeal Smoothie

strawberries and cream oatmeal smoothie

I’m pretty sure we’ve talked about this before, but when I was a kid I used to go through serious food phases. One week I’d eat yogurt like crazy, the next: bagels! The next: instant oatmeal. Oh man. I remember the first time I ever had the ___ and cream oatmeal packets — I was pretty blown away. Strawberries and cream, especially, puts the apple-cinnamon’s of the world to shame. [Full disclosure: I actually love apple-cinnamon oatmeal].

This recipe comes from the ridiculous amount of love the Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal Smoothie got. Seriously, you people must love your oatmeal smoothies! I thought about giving y’all a green smoothie, but decided strawberries and cream sounded perfect. It totally was!

Strawberries always taste so fresh and light, but when you add oatmeal to a smoothie it is immediately a hearty meal. I really have trouble finishing my oatmeal smoothies, which is an issue because if you leave them for too long they become more like oatmeal! I need to get some thicker straws…

I kept it super simple for this smoothie: frozen strawberries, yogurt, milk, and oatmeal. You could add a splash of vanilla if you wanted, or even a handful of spinach (I swear you won’t taste it!). Talk about a quick smoothie! 45 seconds later, you’re eating breakfast. BOOM.

This looks great. Do you think I can use ice cream instead of yogurt?

YUM. Trying it in the morning!
Ok so one slight confusion.. Is the oatmeal just like the oats by themself? Not cooked, right?

Yep – just oats! Totally uncooked!

Just wondering can i use steel cut irish oatmeal? Does it make any difference?

I don’t think steel cut would work – they’re too thick! I’d stick to rolled oats (I’ve used both quick and old fashioned, either will work).

Yes! I definitely remember those strawberries & cream oatmeal packs from growing up. And oatmeal is such a great smoothie ingredient. (I made a blueberry oatmeal smoothie for breakfast today and immediately wanted another one.) Your strawberry smoothie looks fantastic!

I don’t have yogurt, would it still taste the same? What’s a good substitute?

Hmm. It will just be less creamy (just a strawberry smoothie) without the yogurt. Probably just as delicious, just a little bit different! Good luck!

Ok I read your comment about the smoothie turning to oatmeal, would it make sense to “grind” the oats first in the blender then add the other ingredients? I cant wait to try this, I have been looking for a smoothie recipe without bananas forever.

You could if you want, but there is really no need! They are ground plenty when you grind the smoothie as a whole.

No one ever gives the nutritional content. Is that available?

Hi Shirley — the plugin I was using to display nutritional information was taken down by it’s creators, and I’ve yet to replace it… I know a lot of people care about it, so I will put it on my “to do” list! Sorry it’s not there yet!
